Western Sicily May 2019 Day 4
This morning we headed to Sant’Angelo Muxaro to pay a visit to my dear friend Pier. I’ve really been looking forward to the Val Di Kam experience since last years tour.
We started off with a couple visits to the local bread and cheese shops to see how they prepare their fresh products (of course we had to taste them as well). Pier guided us along the way and carefully explained the ancient traditions that are still to this day practiced. They are held as sacred. A brief stop in the church for some interesting stories before we headed out to do some sightseeing throughout the fields and mountains.
We then went to visit the “plant whisperer” in his natural hillside paradise of bliss. Aldo has an understanding and connection with nature that is legendary. We were all feeling the vibe. He prepared one of his incredible meals all from his land and made us a few custom elixirs for our various ailments.
We then took a ride over to look at the Archi di Pasqua, in San Biagio Platani. Traditional religious decorations all made of food! An artistic display we were glad we got to witness.
The restaurant “Ginger People & Food” was next for a cooking show and conversation with the chef Madam Cisse. Carmelo welcomed us to his restaurant and enlightened us with some real Sicilian history. The connection between Sicily and Africa has never been more clear and puts things in a completely different perspective. Seeing how Madam Cisse worked her magic with the Cous Cous was great.
A fantastic meal and some more laughter closed out this episode.
