Western Sicily May 2019 Day 7
Today we made our way to the lovely cities of Cefalù and Palermo. We were looking forward to setting foot in these two gems that are completely different but equally charming.
Cefalù struck us with its amazing views of the sea, cathedral, and rock mountain hovering behind. After exploring the city a bit we indulged in some pizza while taking in the views of the cathedral outside in the main square.
We then made our way to Palermo. Just so happened that today was also the 27 year anniversary of the assassination of Falcone & Boresellino. Memorial displays flooded the streets. For those of you not familiar with the importance of their legacy, please google.
Palermo had a completely different vibe as it is a hustling and bustling city. We were met by Enrica, our friendly tour guide for this afternoons informative walk through. Palermo was referred to as the valley of gold, being that the mountains surrounding the one time lemon tree spread vegetation gave it that feel and visual. We also got to witness parts of a real Sicilian wedding, which was an unexpected surprise that we stumbled upon. They do everything in style!
On our way back we had to stop to catch the sun setting over the sea. Being at the right place at the right time seemed to be a normal occurrence for us at this point.
